Parties in sexual assault lawsuit reach settlement agreement

A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit filed against the university over an alleged sexual assault, ending the litigation and allowing the UO to focus on its continuing efforts to halt sexual violence on campus, President Michael Schill announced Tuesday.

The agreement resolves all claims in the suit, which was filed in federal court almost a year ago by a UO student over an alleged assault at an off-campus residence. Schill said it's time now to look ahead and complete the work of protecting students from sexual assault and misconduct.

"In approving this settlement, it is my hope that we focus our attention and considerable expertise on making our campus one on which all students will feel secure in the knowledge that they will be free from sexual violence," the president wrote. "The underlying incident that gave rise to the litigation is an affront to each and every one of us. As president I will not tolerate the victimization of any member of our community. Period."
