Power outages planned March 29 to test system resiliency

Campus Planning and Facilities Management is scheduling “island mode” testing for Wednesday, March 29, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Island mode testing will help determine the root cause of a problem that occurred during similar testing in December. The procedure will be attempted several times throughout the scheduled test period.

As a result, short-duration power outages may occur at any time throughout the testing period. Engineers who designed the equipment will be on hand along with service technicians to assist in determining the cause of the failure. The redundancy and resiliencies of the electrical distribution system depend upon the properly functioning power generation system and island mode capabilities.

People are asked to shut down and unplug all multifunction copier devices as well as any printers during scheduled power outages. The software on such machines can be negatively affected due to the power surge when power is turned back on.
