Provost hosts town hall meeting on UO Institutional Hiring Plan

Provost Patrick Phillips will host a fall term town hall meeting from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in the Erb Memorial Union’s Crater Lake South Room.

The focus of the event will be on the University of Oregon’s 2020 Institutional Hiring Plan, and Phillips will lead an informational session and discussion on aspects of the plan.

The institutional hiring plan is known as the IHP and will be created through a collaborative process with faculty members and deans of the schools and colleges. The provost will have ongoing discussions with individual deans and conclude final aspects of the plan with feedback from two advisory groups: the Dean’s Council and the Provost’s Faculty Hiring Advisory Committee, a group of senior faculty members from representative disciplines across campus.

“The town hall will allow us to actively engage with our faculty members around our mission, vision and values when it comes to the process of hiring excellent faculty,” Phillips said. “My intent is to be transparent in how we build our faculty ranks and strengthen the university together.”

This marks the fourth year that UO has engaged in the institutional hiring plan process to determine tenure-track faculty searches for the following search year. Efforts related to the 2018 plan yielded 45 hires over the 2018-19 search year, and 30 searches are currently in progress as part of the 2019 plan.

Complete details on the plan can be viewed on the Office of the Provost website.
