The spring quarter Sustainability Open House will be held online, hosted via Zoom, Thursday, April 2, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

The event will include speakers from staff, faculty and student groups giving short presentations on their programs, research or UO initiatives:

• Taylor McHolm will speak on Student Sustainability Center work.
• Brendan Adamczyk will speak on Climate Justice League work.
• Steve Mital will give an update on the UO’s Climate Action Plan.
• Autumn Ellison will discuss the Year of Water initiative.
• Cheyenne Holliday will speak on the Oregon Water Futures project.
• Aaron Olsen from Campus Planning will talk about the East 13th Avenue Revision Project.
• Education studies professor Sarah Stapleton will discuss her research in College of Education.

Collaborations between faculty members and staff that arise from the meeting, or the inaugural meeting last fall, are eligible to apply for funding provided by the Office of the Vice President for Finance and Administration. Applications are due by May 1.

The shift to an online meeting came from the social distancing guidelines arising from the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, as well as the UO’s decision to transition all spring quarter courses to online learning.

“Coronavirus has significantly disrupted our campus and local communities, as well as our personal lives,” said Office of Sustainability program manager Sarah Stoeckl. “I am pleased we are able to still offer this gathering and to use digital tools to continue to build the UO’s community and collaborations, even if from afar.”
