University honors Governor’s Day holiday again this year

Gov. Kate Brown has granted a special day of leave for this year, and the University of Oregon will honor it for faculty members and officers of administration with 12-month appointments.

While the special day of leave traditionally is taken on the working day before or next working day after either Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, it may be taken any working day from Nov. 21 through Jan. 31.

The collective bargaining agreement grants classified employees an additional day off, referred to as the special day of leave,  found in Article 42, section 2, which may be used on a mutually agreed upon day between the working day before Thanksgiving through Jan. 31. Where no day during this time can be mutually agreed upon, another day of the employee’s choice shall be granted, provided that approved usage does not create the closure of facilities. This day must be used no later than June 30.

Full-time employees receive eight hours of leave, which is prorated for part-time employees. Holiday information was previously shared with employees by email and published on AroundtheO. This information is also posted on the HR website.
