UO Board of Trustees secretary to depart in September

Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to announce that Angela Wilhelms, university secretary and advisor to the president, is leaving the university to become president and CEO of Oregon Business and Industry. As a member of the university’s senior leadership team, Angela has played a vital role in supporting the University of Oregon’s mission and ensuring effective university governance as she worked with us in managing the work of the UO Board of Trustees.

Angela joined the UO in July 2014 when the newly appointed Board of Trustees assumed governance of the institution, and she played a critical role in establishing the practices for the governing board's operations. Among her many contributions, Angela created reporting structures for institutional priorities such as student success, financial sustainability, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. She also managed the herculean process of updating and improving the university's policy-making process and policy library. During her tenure, she wore many hats in support of university administration, including serving as the liaison to the University Senate and interim chief of staff to the provost. In every role, Angela served with integrity, purpose, and dedication to our teaching and research mission. She leaves a lasting legacy in establishing “best in class” practices and procedures for the Board of Trustees and in the deep professional and personal friendships that she fostered and nurtured. We will miss her greatly.

Angela will depart the university at the end of September. We will appoint a search committee in the coming days and begin the national search for her replacement immediately.

Please join us in congratulating Angela on her new role.

Sincerely,

Michael H. Schill
President and Professor of Law

Chair, UO Board of Trustees
