UO grad student to study microbes in urban planning

UO doctoral student Gwynne Mhuireach of the Department of Landscape Architecture in the School of Architecture and Allied Arts is headed into Eugene neighborhoods to sample various microbes, compare them to nearby vegetation and analyze the data against health records of residents.

Mhuireach hopes that her findings will help drive improved urban planning decisions. She is funded by a two-year U.S. Environmental Protection Agency STAR (Science to Achieve Results) fellowship grant.
