UO holds a week of Veterans Day activities and events

There’s more than one way to thank a vet, especially at the UO.

A full week of campus activities are scheduled around Veterans Day to let members of the UO community reach out to student veterans as well as military personnel currently serving in war zones overseas. The UO Student Veterans Center located in the EMU South. The group’s Facebook page is here.

Here’s the veterans week schedule:

Monday, Nov. 9:  Veteran and Family Student Association luncheon

The Veterans and Family Student Association will host lunch for student, faculty and staff in honor of UO student veterans and their service. Lunch will be served at noon just outside the UO Student Veteran Center, located in the EMU South (Mac Court). 

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 9-11: Postcards for Military Service Men and Women

The UO Student Veteran Center will sponsor a table, located outside the Erb Memorial Union, to sign and send "Home of the Free, Because of the Brave" postcards for military men and women currently deployed to war zones.

Wednesday, Nov. 11: Veterans Day

UO Veterans Day Recognition Ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. in the Ford Alumni Ballroom.  Jeff Hawkins, UO senior associate athletic director for football administration and operations, will give the keynote address. Provost Scott Coltrane and Tillman Scholar Dallas Gray will also speak. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

Thursday, Nov. 12: Student Veteran Panel

A panel of UO student veterans will talk about their experiences in the military and at the UO at 3 p.m. in the Erb Memorial Union’s Maple Room. Refreshments will be served.

Saturday, Nov. 14: UO Veterans 5K Run (FREE)

Join UO student veterans on a free 5K run around the UO campus. The run will begin at Hayward Field at 9 a.m. T-Shirts available for purchase. Sponsored by the UO Student Veteran Center, which supports student veterans on the UO campus.
