UO offers professional development opportunities for faculty and staff

The UO Office of Organizational Development and Training is offering a variety of professional development opportunities this winter for faculty or staff members looking to improve themselves – from project management to leadership training to listening skills.

Courses, meetings and events are available to UO employees over the next six months. Most of the courses are offered at no cost and several can be expected to be provocative. The majority of the courses will take place in Room 478 of the Peace Health North Building, with select courses being offered at various locations on the UO campus.

The "Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking when the Stakes are High" series will teach participants when and how to hold conversations about emotional or risky topics, with the goal of making high-quality, mutually beneficial decisions. This course series will be held during four, 3.5-hour sessions in January and costs $92.50.

“Project Management Series” is a free five-session course in February and March that provide practical pointers and tools for those involved in planning and overseeing projects. The free six-session “Supervision for Potential Supervisors” course in April and May is specifically designed for employees, including officers of administration, classified staff or faculty, who are interested in becoming supervisors.

The two-day “Influencer” course is a leadership course teaches proven strategies to drive rapid and sustainable behavior change for teams and organizations by learning to diagnose and counteract the complex forces that underlie resistant organizational problems. This course will be held in two, 8-hour sessions in March and costs $185.
