AroundtheO: Eight University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication students traveled to Uruguay for four weeks this summer as part of a new study abroad program to document the migration route of the Southern Atlantic right whale.

UO's Ribe wins award for 20-year-long forest research project

AroundtheO: Rob Ribe, a landscape architecture professor at the University of Oregon, has been selected for a 2013 Oregon ASLA (American Society of Landscape Architects) research award for his 20-year, peer-reviewed study assessing how to improve the scenic quality of harvests in Pacific Northwest federal forests.

UO professor teams up with University of Texas colleague to study effects of climate change in Peru

AroundtheO: Mark Carey, an associate professor of history in the Robert D. Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon, has teamed up with several researchers, including Professor Kenneth Young in the Department of Geography and the Environment at the University of Texas, as part of a National Science Foundation grant.

UO President Gottfredson, presidents of OSU and PSU discuss higher-ed funding

AroundtheO: In a forum designed to address “the underfunding of higher education,” the presidents of the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, and Portland State University responded Friday to questions from the Oregonian’s David Sarasohn, to address the issue in innovative ways while working together to improve educational opportunities for Oregonians.

UO College of Education professor named to Oregon State Board of Education

AroundtheO: Charles Martinez, head of the Department of Educational Methodology, Policy, and Leadership in the UO College of Education, was confirmed to the Oregon State Board of Education by the state senate in a Nov. 21 vote. He will represent Oregon’s 4th Congressional District through June 2017.

EMU pillars to be painted by students before they’re torn down

Daily Emerald: EMU board member Miles Sisk helms a project to paint the concrete pillars in the EMU before it is renovated. Any students or student groups can participate at no charge and the artwork will remain until the EMU becomes a construction zone.

National Geographic photographs of the American West exhibit at JSMA closing soon

Daily Emerald: The National Geographic Greatest Photographs of the American West exhibit at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art will close on December 31.

Hoops Teams with Kendall Toyota to “Read With the Ducks”

GoDucks.com: The University of Oregon Athletic Department and Kendall Toyota have teamed up with 11 local elementary schools and introduced Read with the Ducks, a reading program promoting literacy and offering kids an opportunity to see the 2013-14 Oregon men’s basketball team in action.
