Workshops offered to faculty, business managers and unit heads

The Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs is offering a series of workshops during the year to provide faculty members, business managers and unit leaders information to help advance careers and successfully manage academic and research units.

The workshops cover a variety of topics, including faculty promotion and tenure processes. In addition, the office has partnered with the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, the vice president for finance and administration, and human resources to develop a series of workshops for unit heads. These workshops will be held throughout the year.

The upcoming workshops are:

Oct. 25: NTTF Promotion — This workshop is intended to help non-tenure-track faculty, unit heads and business managers learn about the evaluation and promotion process at the University of Oregon. This session will cover both instructional and research NTTF. Topics covered include evaluation and promotion timelines; candidate responsibilities; unit responsibilities; and dossier preparation.

Nov. 8: Unit Heads Training - Budgeting 101 — Budgeting 101 covers a broad range of topics, including an overview of the structure of the university's budget, a discussion of the budget effects of key decisions unit heads regularly face, review of key budget terms and concepts, and time for questions and answers.

Nov. 29: Introduction to Tenure for New Tenure-track Faculty — This workshop introduces new tenure-track faculty to the promotion and tenure process, including an overview of the process; early-stage discussions of scholarship, teaching and service expectations; helpful tips regarding record keeping, CV and statement preparation; and discussions of common issues that arise and ways to avoid them.
