Cathleen Santoso earned All-American Scholar accolades Wednesday afternoon as announced by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association. Santoso is the second freshman to earn such honor in three years for the Oregon women’s golf program and the 21st Duck to earn the award. Fellow teammate Cali Hipp was the last freshman to do so in 2012.

The Sydney, Australia, product had the second lowest stroke average on the team this past season (73.87) behind Cassy Isagawa (72.95). Santoso and Isagawa were the only two Ducks this year to claim a tournament crown.

Santoso played in 13 tournaments, posting eight top 20 finishes, a pair of top three finishes and one top 10 finish. Her 13 rounds under par are second best on the team behind Isagawa and tops amongst the three freshmen on the team.

Santoso was one of two freshmen in the lineup for UO that finished in 14th at the NCAA West Regional held at Tumble Creek Club in Cle Elum, Wash.

The soon to be sophomore finished second at the Westbrook Spring Invitational with a team-best card of 70-63-74 – 207 (-9). Her 9-under 63 in the second round of that tournament was the best round in UO women’s golf history at the Westbrook Village Golf Club.

She followed that performance up with a medalist title at the Julie Inkster Spartan Invitational with a final card of 73-72-68—213 (-3). Her win also fueled Oregon past UC Davis by two strokes for its first team title in 2013-14.

The criteria for selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50. In total, 664 women’s collegiate golfers were recognized with the prestigious honor between Divisions I, II, and III.
