Human physiology lectures will range from exercise to the stars

The UO Department of Human Physiology is hosting a yearlong seminar series that will explore topics from obesity and its connection to the solar system to exercise and sports sciences.

Five seminars are slated every two weeks for the fall term and guest speakers will be visiting from around the country. The bi-monthly seminars are free and will take place Fridays at 11 a.m. in Room 125 McKenzie Hall.

“Human physiology graduate students are required to attend the seminar series, and the general public is encouraged to attend,” said Dan Shepard, an accountant in the department.

Paul DeVita, director of the biomechanics laboratory at East Carolina University, will be the first guest speaker on Oct. 10.

“His areas of expertise are in biomechanics, walking and running, knee function and biomechanics associated with aging, obesity and osteoarthritis,” said professor Andrew Karduna, director of graduate studies in human physiology.

Each speaker is considered an expert in the subject he or she will be presenting, Karduna said.

The schedule is available on the department’s website.
