Incoming president makes another visit to campus this week

Incoming UO President Michael Schill is making a follow-up visit to campus this week to continue his orientation in advance of his official start date in early July.

Less than two weeks after a similar visit, Schill will spend time meeting with faculty, introducing himself to students and touring campus facilities.  He will also explore the Eugene-Springfield community as one of its newest residents.

The incoming president will accompany interim President Scott Coltrane to a lunch meeting with employee group leaders, including individuals representing the SEIU, United Academics, GTFF and officers of administration, and he will attend a portion of the May 26 meeting of the Classified Staff Training and Development Advisory Committee, also known as CSTDAC.

To gain deeper understanding of the research strengths of the university, he will tour chemistry and biology labs, get an overview of the CAMCOR and Lokey Laboratories, and talk with professors to learn more about their research areas.

A highlight of the visit will be attending the Distinguished Teaching Awards and Research Faculty Excellence Awards reception May 28, when more than a dozen faculty members will be recognized for their contributions to the university mission. The event is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation and the Office of Academic Affairs.

Throughout the week, he will stop by coffee shops and other places frequented by students to chat informally as they near the end of the academic year. He will also welcome back to campus attendees returning from a Singapore Alumni Reunion and members of the alumni association board of directors, who meet May 29.
