“The Haight Ashbury Quartet” and other Loren Sears documentaries at Schnitzer Cinema

Eugene-raised film and video artist Loren Sears showcases his documentaries “The Haight Ashbury Quartet” and “The Pacific Lake” at 7 p.m. March 13 in the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

Schnitzer Cinema screenings are free and include free popcorn and soda.

“The Haight Ashbury Quartet” is made up of four short, 16mm films that date from 1967 to 1971 and use experimental techniques of superimposition and optical printing to portray private and communal life in San Francisco.

Play examines women’s experience during Iraq War

What does it mean to be a woman in a country overshadowed by war? That theme will be explored beginning this week when University Theatre opens Heather Raffo’s “9 Parts of Desire,” directed by Michael Najjar.

Timed to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Iraq War, and perhaps accidentally, International Women’s Day, “9 Parts of Desire” opens at 8 p.m. on March 7 and continues at the same time on March, 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16, and at 2 p.m. on March 17 in the UO’s Hope Theatre.

The Paperboys play traditional Irish music Friday in Beall Hall

The Paperboys kick off the Eugene Irish Cultural Festival and an early St. Patrick’s Day celebration with an evening of traditional Irish music at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 8, at the UO's Beall Concert Hall.

Paperboys founder Tom Landa is "pure 50 percent Irish," and brings his heritage and guitar skills to the group. Joining Landa is Canadian Kalissa Hernandez on fiddle, Brad Gillard on banjo and Sam Esecson on percussion.

UO staff/faculty appreciation event and sale at Digital Duck

The Digital Duck at The Duck Store will host free drop-in clinics, refreshments and special savings for University of Oregon faculty and staff on Friday, March 8.

The event is only for faculty and staff – including student employees – of the UO. Participants are asked to bring their current UO ID cards or paystubs indicating employment at the university.

The 30-minute drop-in clinics begin at 10 a.m. and continue all day. They include sessions on iTunes, iBooks, iPads and purchasing programs.

New online tool allows prospective Oregon law students to see their future

Prospective students who are curious about law school, but not sure what to expect or where to start, now have a way to peer into their future.

The UO School of Law has launched "On Track," an informal, interactive tool that creates a suggested program of study based on an individual's personal interests and goals.

The UO School of Law is one of only a few throughout the country using interactive technology that helps students understand the trajectory of a law school academic experience.

With the cost of living increasing each year, it is critical that the University of Oregon be able to provide periodic adjustments to salaries in order to recruit and retain the highest-quality faculty and staff. This is not something the UO has been able to do on a consistent basis for a number of years. With that fact in mind, I am pleased to announce a new multi-year program that will provide cost of living adjustments along with the possibility of merit/equity increases.
