UO Music and Dance wrap through Feb. 27

The University of Oregon School of Music and Dance events calendar is packed full of performances – from a visiting flutist, to baroque chamber music, to the world premiere of an original opera.

All Sizes Fit: UO to host weeklong campaign for positive body image

The University of Oregon will once again focus on "positive body image" during the week of Feb. 18, in a campaign this week and this campaign meant to help UO faculty, staff and students feel comfortable with their appearance.

The third-year effort is being coordinated by the UO Counseling and Testing Center, Health Center, the Student Recreation Center and University Housing. The "All Sizes Fit" campaign features a week’s worth of displays, presentations and activities that promote acceptance of body shapes while raising awareness about a health-at-all-sizes approach. 

National Geographic's Wade Davis to lead journey through ancient worlds

Wade Davis, a National Geographic "explorer-in-residence," will lead a journey through ancient worlds and demonstrate how today's civilizations are richer because of contributions from those of the past when he comes to the University of Oregon on Feb. 12.

Davis' lecture, “The Wayfinders: Why Ancient Wisdom Matters in a Modern World,” will be at 7:30 p.m. in 182 Lillis Hall (955 E. 13th Ave.). The lecture is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a book sale and signing.

Darwin's birth month celebrated at UO museum

The University of Oregon's Museum of Natural and Cultural History will present three speakers and a Darwin-themed family program as part of the international celebration of the birth month of Charles Darwin.

Each talk in the speakers' series – called "Primate Perspectives" – will highlight a different primate population, from long-extinct North American primates to currently endangered African monkeys.

Each event will last an hour and begin at 6 p.m. at the Knight Law Center, 1515 Agate St., Room 110. Admission is free.

Celebration of life for UO's Becky Vaughan

A celebration of life will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, for Rebecca "Becky" Vaughan, a longtime employee of the University of Oregon.

Vaughan died of cancer on Jan. 31. She was 62.

She worked since 1984 in the UO Police Department and the Parking and Transportation Department. She began her UO career in police dispatch, shifted to the front office in parking and then served for many years as that department's access coordinator. More recently, she continued to work half-time in parking during her retirement.
