Kathryn Allan first-ever recipient of UO Le Guin award

Canadian scholar and editor Kathryn Allan has been selected as the first-ever recipient of the University of Oregon’s Le Guin Feminist Science Fiction Fellowship.

The Center for the Study of Women in Society created the fellowship as part of its 40th anniversary celebration, and as a way of honoring the role UO Libraries Special Collections and University Archives played in the founding of the women’s center.

Delicious and sustainable--local foods bring a lot to the table. But shopping for them isn't usually as convenient as making a run to the supermarket.

University of Oregon MBA graduate Amy McCann is working on changing that.

McCann is the cofounder and CEO of Local Food Marketplace, a Eugene-based startup whose online shopping application makes it easier for individual consumers and institutional buyers (think restaurant chefs) to buy local.

Six-month tribute to alumnus begins with film screenings this week

The late UO alumnus James Blue, an independent filmmaker renowned for his socially engaged documentaries and teaching, will be honored with a six-month tribute to his career.

The tribute will kick off Nov.13 and Nov. 14 with Schnitzer Cinema’s presentation of Blue’s ”The March.” The screening event includes remarks from Gerald O’Grady, visiting scholar and former colleague of Blue, and UO journalism professor Daniel Miller who will present Blue’s classic 33-minute film in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington.
