Mentor, role model, coach, leader: Those words were used at a reception Nov. 5 recognizing Linda King for 32 years of service to human resources at the University of Oregon.
King, who retired from her position as the department’s associate vice president in October, ushered in sweeping changes over three decades that continue to serve faculty, staff and students today. Throughout, supporters said, her open-mindedness and fairness inspired respect even from those opposite her on the issues.
University of Oregon alumnus David Jeremiah died Oct. 7 at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., at age 79.
Jeremiah retired in 1994, ending his 38-year Navy career with a four-year tenure as vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Army Gens. Colin Powell and John Shalikashvili.
The collective bargaining agreement between the University of Oregon and United Academics is available on the Academic Affairs website, Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Doug Blandy announced Tuesday.

The University of Oregon has launched its new Global Studies Institute – a home for internationally oriented centers, programs and new initiatives within the Office of International Affairs.
The Global Studies Institute mission is to support internationally oriented projects that enhance faculty research, enrich the student experience, globalize the campus and promote the UO’s academic excellence with partners around the world.
University of Oregon employees who plan to participate in the State of Oregon Employees’ Charitable Fund Drive should submit their pledges by Dec. 31.
The Charitable Fund Drive, which began in 1989, is an annual charitable giving campaign for state of Oregon employees. It consolidates charitable solicitation into an annual campaign and allows online submission of pledges and optional payroll deductions for contributions.
Participants are able to choose which charities their donations will serve.
The University of Oregon's Department of Human Physiology will host a lecture on “Patient Outcomes Following Knee Injury: Clinical Trends and Current Research,” on Nov. 8.
The talk, given by Andrew Winterstein of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, is part of an ongoing lecture series presented by the UO's Human Physiology Department. Winterstein’s lecture will take place in Lillis 132, from 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
