We’re in This Together

While parents and families of Ducks come from a diversity of backgrounds, they have one thing in common—wanting their students to have positive, successful academic experiences at the University of Oregon.

That's why we offer programs to build partnerships with our students' families, keeping them connected to the UO and each other. These relationships play an important part in keeping students on the path to earning their degrees.

Tune in for Helpful Advice

Now in its third year, our Flock Talk podcast is produced with first-year students and their families in mind. We know from experience the types of questions that new Ducks have when transitioning to college, and we feature guests that inform, educate, and introduce important campus resources.

Leaving the Nest

There are a few things we recommend for families, to prepare for the beginning of school and to help first-year students transition into university life.

Create a Communications Pact

It’s important for you and your student to understand each other’s expections from the start. This includes agreeing on the best ways to communicate with one another, and what kinds of topics to include in those conversations.

Have Important Conversations

One of the most significant ways to help your student is to make sure that you have meaningful conversations throughout the year. We have consulted with campus experts about the best conversations to have before challenges arise.

Consult Other Families

Parent and Family Programs has more than 50 volunteers across the country who can help you prepare for your student’s first year at the UO. Many also host events so that you can connect with others in your region.

Staying Connected

The Office of Parent and Family Programs keeps UO parents and families engaged through communications, membership, networking, events, and philanthropy.

In addition to online resources, we have volunteers and regional representatives across the nation to keep our parent and family communities connected and involved.
