Affordable furnishings to be sold at campus surplus sale

The University of Oregon is selling used furniture and surplus equipment to the public at a weekly sale. The next one is May 11 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on the south side of the Romania warehouse, 2020 Franklin Boulevard; the entrance is near East 15th Avenue and Orchard Street.

Evening sales also are held once a month on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. The remaining dates for spring term are May 17 and June 7.

Tables and desks are priced at $15 and many styles of chairs also are available to choose from. A list of items is available on the UO surplus website.

“During winter term UO surplus sold items to the public and kept 17.5 tons of materials out of the landfill,” said Cimmeron Gillespie, data and policy analyst in the Office of Sustainability. “We want to reuse and find new homes for furniture no longer needed on campus.”

Surplus items can also be acquired by employees for free for on-campus only use. Staff can visit the Romania warehouse on Tuesdays from 2 to 4 p.m. or Wednesdays from noon to 1:30 p.m. or by appointment. They can also browse and reserve items online. Departments can also donate to the surplus furniture program.
