Benefits team offers answers and empowerment in sessions

University of Oregon employees can access services such as financial coaching, pet insurance and homeowner support, in addition to core medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits.

The benefits team from Human Resources is hosting a presentation and Q&A session on Feb. 15 from 10 to 11:00 a.m. on Zoom (register in MyTrack). Current and new faculty, classified employees and officers of administration who’d like a deeper understanding of the university’s total benefits package are encouraged to attend.

The session will cover the core benefit plans and describe UO’s wellness programs and discounts (pet insurance, for example). The benefits team plans to offer the sessions monthly.

“The university’s specialty wellness and discount offerings can help people feel valued, and that their families are valued,” said Cindy Huie, benefits coordinator. “And we offer some benefits that people might not be aware of but might really appreciate.”

The goals of the overview session are to:

  • Promote the university’s values of community, care and inclusivity by sharing the full range of wellness benefits and discounts the UO offers — and encouraging employees to use them.
  • Help employees feel confident in their benefit selections and knowledge.
  • Empower employees to make informed decisions and navigate the health care system effectively.

“We want to reduce frustration around benefits processes, and make sure employees understand everything that’s available to them,” said Juniper Thompson, benefits coordinator. “If you understand your choices, you feel more empowered.”
