Classroom tech training sessions to be held in September

Just before fall term starts at the University of Oregon, instructors can get oriented to their classroom technology through a new series of trainings.

The classroom tech support team in Information Services will hold three trainings for interested UO faculty and staff members in three classrooms of different sizes:

  • Sept. 20: Medium room, Lokey Education 117.
  • Sept. 21: Small room, Friendly 106.
  • Sept. 22: Large room, PLC 180.

All trainings will run from 2 to 4 p.m. The first 30 minutes will feature an in-depth demonstration of the room's audiovisual equipment. The rest will be drop-in time, when people can bring their own equipment and meet with a classroom technician one-on-one.

The trainings are open to anyone who teaches or supports teaching in classrooms scheduled by the Office of the Registrar, also known as general pool and joint-controlled classrooms.

Faculty and staff members, graduate employees and student employees are welcome. No registration is required.

Trainings will cover AV equipment specific to each size of room, ranging from Crestron control systems to microphones, assistive listening devices and document cameras.

"A lot of people have asked for trainings like these in the past," said Henry Mills, classroom technology specialist. "We're glad to offer these demos to help get fall term off to a good start."

Historically, many faculty members have requested individual training sessions in the weeks just before and after the start of fall term. Although Mills' team still offers such one-on-one sessions, faculty and staff members are strongly encouraged to attend the scheduled September trainings instead, if possible.

"When fall term starts, everyone gets busy at once, including us," Mills said. "Attending these trainings is the best way to ensure you have the information you need when you need it."

The classroom tech support team evolved from the former CMET department in UO Libraries.

More information about the classroom technology demonstrations is available on the UO Classroom Equipment & Technology website.
