Applications being accepted for UO Faculty Research Awards

Applications are being accepted through Dec. 2 for the University of Oregon’s 2014 Faculty Research Awards, which can result in as much as $5,500 in funding for each project that is chosen. The Faculty Research Awards program aims to stimulate research by supporting faculty research expenses.

The UO Senate elects the faculty committee that reviews all proposals; research projects are evaluated based on intellectual or artistic merit.

Twenty-two awards out of 37 applications were awarded for the 2013 competition. This year, up to 20 awards will be given; awardees will be notified in February 2014.

Eligible faculty may apply in one of the two categories available. The first area of emphasis focuses on “Enhancing Scholarship Impact," and awards innovative research projects that contribute to intellectual excellence at the UO. The second area, “Seeding Funding Success,” funds research projects that collect pilot data or demonstrate feasibility. Projects in that category are allowed to enhance their prospects for external funding.

Funds received through the Faculty Research Awards may be used for travel, stipend, equipment, supplies, contractual services, shared facility use and graduate or undergraduate research assistance. The money may not be used to replace or fund faculty salary, for instructional release or course buyouts, or for construction or facility renovation.

Proposals should provide concise and coherent statements of the research projects that peers from various disciplines can comprehend. Guidelines for the competition and application forms can be found online at the Research Development Services website. Applications that do not conform to instructions and guidelines will not be reviewed.

Questions about the awards process may be sent to Research Development Services, at rds@uoregon.edu.
