Employee awards, honors and accolades for summer term 2020

Aug. 18 – Michael Haley, the Richard M. and Patricia H. Noyes Professor, was recognized by the American Chemical Society with the George A. Olah Award in Hydrocarbon or Petroleum Chemistry. The award is given to an individual for outstanding and highly original research achievements in hydrocarbon or petroleum chemistry.

Aug. 18 – Two professors in the School of Journalism and Communication have been recognized by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.

Kyu Ho Youm, professor and Jonathan Marshall First Amendment Chair, earned the 2020 Presidential Award, which recognizes long-serving AEJMC members with distinguished service to journalism and mass communication education.

Ed Madison, assistant professor, earned the 2020 Robert P. Knight Multicultural Recruitment Award, which is presented to those who have made outstanding efforts in attracting high school minority students into journalism and mass communication.

July 21 – Frank Vignola, senior research associate in the Materials Science Institute, has received the Charles Greeley Abbot Award from the American Solar Energy Society. The award is given each year to someone who has made a significant contribution in the field of solar energy. Vignola is the director of the UO’s Solar Radiation Monitoring Lab, which provides solar resources data for planning, design, deployment and operation of solar electric facilities in the Pacific Northwest.
