EMU South to close for two weeks of maintenance before students arrive

The EMU South, the temporary home for many student organizations during the ongoing renovation and expansion of the student union, will be closed Saturday, Sept. 5, through Sunday, Sept. 20, for routine maintenance unrelated to the construction.

EMU South, which includes McArthur Court, is home to many student groups at the university. During the closure, access to the Loft and controllers’ offices of the Associated Students of the UO will be by appointment only.

Please email or call the ASUO to set up an appointment.

“This closure gives staff time for deeper cleaning, maintenance, time off for program staff and keeps our operational costs in check,” said Dan Geiger, the project coordinator for the EMU’s expansion and renovation project.

The closure is strategically scheduled during the summer break so that demand for the facilities is low. The building will be ready to go by the time students arrive for the fall term, however.
