Graduate Profiles: From Roman ruins to a degree in classics

Meet Jasmine Akiyama-Kim, Class of 2015:

Hometown: Silverton

Major: Classics

My favorite spot on campus: The law library. There’s so much natural lighting and always a place to study.

Favorite professors: Malcolm Wilson and Mary Jaeger. Both are incredibly insightful, unfailingly supportive and have never steered me wrong.

Memorable experiences: Working on the The American Excavation at Morgantina: Contrada Agnese Project and studying abroad at the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome. Both were extraordinary, unprecedented experiences which brought me into contact with Greek and Roman material culture.

What I did for fun: Weekly dates at Falling Sky with my BFF Emily Erickson! (We go for the boutique ketchup.)

What’s next: Attending UCLA’s post-baccalaureate program in classics. Ultimately, I plan on pursuing a doctorate in the field.
