Ombuds Program annual report highlights top concerns

An overview of the University of Oregon Ombuds Program’s work assisting students, staff and faculty members with challenges and conflicts can now be found online in its annual report for fiscal year 2018.

Brett Harris, university ombudsperson, said the report is meant to familiarize the university community with the work the Ombuds Program does and to provide information that may be useful to them as employees.

“For example, we hope that people in leadership positions look at this information and the trends going on, and that it might help inform their decision-making processes,” Harris said.

She added that the report highlights the top concerns the ombuds office assisted with in the past fiscal year and provides information about the program’s services and outcomes.

The report shows the information in aggregate, without identifying details or commentary, in order to uphold the four main principles of ombuds work: confidentiality, neutrality, informality and independence.

“It has been our honor to work with our campus partners and colleagues and we look forward to providing confidential and informal assistance to the university community in the years to come,” Harris said.

This is the second year the annual report has been posted online. It can be found at ombuds.uoregon.edu/what-does-ombuds-program-do.
