Mia Tuan has accepted the offer to become interim dean of the College of Education, replacing Dean Mike Bullis, Provost James Bean said, in a recent message to the campus community.

Tuan will serve from Sept. 1 through to the appointment of a permanent replacement. Her work as dean designate with Bullis will begin this summer to allow for a smooth transition in the fall, Bean said.

“The permanent dean search will be a full national and international search,” Bean added. “Internal candidates are welcome to apply for the position.”

Tuan has been at the University of Oregon since 1996, serving in a variety of capacities. Currently, she serves as director of the Center on Diversity and Community and as associate dean in the Graduate School.

Under Bullis, the college has made significant progress in academic, research and diversity initiatives, garnering national attention and praise and landing the college in the top rankings for education schools.

“Mia and I have talked about the importance of continuing the momentum of the college’s  initiatives during this interregnum,” Bean said. “I have great confidence that Mia will continue this progress. She will have support from many talented colleagues in the college and the provost’s office, as well as the support of her former dean.”
