Short power outages may occur Sept. 6 during system testing

Campus Planning and Facilities Management is scheduling power testing for Wednesday, Sept. 6, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The testing will focus on the University of Oregon’s island mode operation, which is the system used to generate power independently from the Eugene Water and Electric Board. During the series of tests, power will shift between the UO’s power source and EWEB’s. The blog for campus closures, shutdowns and detours outlines the testing schedule.

Short-duration power outages may occur at any time throughout the testing period. Engineers who designed the equipment will be on hand along with service technicians. The redundancy and resiliencies of the electrical distribution system depend on the power generation system properly functioning and on island mode capabilities.

People are asked to shut down and unplug all multifunction copier devices as well as any printers during scheduled power testing. The software on machines can be negatively affected due to the power surge when power is turned back on.
