Spread of Zika virus prompts campus advisory

The UO Office of International Affairs has posted an advisory on the Zika virus for any members of the university community who are planning or considering travel to areas where the virus is found.

The all-campus advisory offers information on how to avoid infection and a link to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention travel alert on the virus and locations where it has been reported. It is most common in Central and South America and the Caribbean.

The virus is spread by mosquitoes and no vaccine currently exists. Although the illness caused by the virus typically involves relatively mild symptoms, it has serious implications for pregnant women or women who are considering becoming pregnant.
