Three more rounds of maintenance on critical technology components at the University of Oregon may temporarily disrupt a wide range of services this summer.
The work is scheduled as follows:
- Thursday, July 11, 6-11 p.m.: Sporadic outages may occur, though they would likely be brief and minor.
- Wednesday, July 24, 7-11:30 p.m.: Low chance of disruptions.
- Saturday, August 3, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.: This extended daytime maintenance may cause some noticeable service outages.
Information Services staff recommend that people avoid changing their passwords throughout all of the above time frames.
The team will be continuing its update of the back-end service known as Active Directory.
When disruptions occur, they could affect dozens of UO services that rely on Active Directory, including computer logins, email flow and access to Wi-Fi, UO VPN and numerous other technology services.
"We ask once again for your patience and understanding as we complete this essential, once-in-a-decade update," said Melody Riley, associate chief information officer for enterprise solutions. "Our staff have designed the three-month process to minimize disruptions to the UO community."
Details about upcoming service outages will be posted on the IT Service Status website. That's also where Information Services will post updates if maintenance schedules change, along with in-the-moment updates if the work runs long or causes unexpected problems.
