UO celebrates homecoming

This year, the University of Oregon will celebrate its 99th annual Homecoming with events throughout the week of Oct. 14 to Oct. 19.

Faculty, students and staff are invited to participate in a decorating contest inspired by this year’s homecoming theme, “Once a Duck, Always a Duck.”

Submissions were due Oct. 11 and judges will visit entries from Oct. 14 to 18. Participants can decorate doors, windows and offices, and the grand prize will be awarded to the entry that best fits the theme.

The decorating contest is going digital too. Tweet photos to @UOHomecoming during the week for chances to win additional prizes.

On Friday, Oct. 18, activities will begin the early afternoon and go into the evening.

The Homecoming Activities Fair will take place in the EMU amphitheater and lobby from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The fair will host student organizations and vendors. Departments interested in having a table at the fair should register by Oct. 16.

A Homecoming Parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. with approximately 30 float entries traveling the parade route on 13th Avenue from Kincaid Street to University Street. There are various categories for which prizes will be given, including best representation of theme, best fraternity or sorority float and best performance.

Following the parade, there will be a pep rally and live music entertainment at the EMU amphitheater.

During the weekend, alumni will return for the 50th class reunion (1963) and the multicultural reunion, and hundreds of parents and families will arrive on campus for Family Weekend.

Many will cheer on the Oregon Ducks football team when they compete against the Washington State University Cougars at Autzen Stadium at 7 p.m. Oct. 19.
