UO to commemorate Veterans Day with week of events

The University of Oregon will observe Veterans Day and honor military veterans with Veterans Awareness Week events from Monday, Nov. 11, through Thursday, Nov. 14.

The events will begin on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, with a Remembrance Day National Roll Call from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the EMU amphitheater. A Veterans Day Recognition Ceremony will also take place on Monday in the Ford Alumni Center's Giustina Ballroom at 11 a.m. This event will include posting of the colors by UO ROTC color guard, recognition of the UO Tillman Military Scholars, and keynote addresses by Jon Ruiz, Eugene city manager, and Alex Dracobly, UO history professor. 

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, through Thursday, Nov. 14, UO students, faculty, staff and visitors can write letters to deployed service members in the EMU upper amphitheater.

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, the Veterans and Family Student Association will host a luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. in the UO Student Veterans Center in the EMU, followed by “Soldier Stories: Readings about Military Service” from 2-4 p.m.

The week’s events will conclude with the Run for Remembrance 5k on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 5:30-7 p.m., beginning at the UO Student Veterans Center.
