UO offices can register to “go green” at fall orientation

The “greening” of the University of Oregon continues in November, with an orientation for offices that want to become environmentally friendly.

The Fall Green Office Certification Orientation, running from noon to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12, will cover how workplaces across campus can improve operations to reduce waste, save energy and more. The UO Office of Sustainability will offer this 90-minute program – cost is $10 per participant, lunch included – to teach dozens of ways to reduce the environmental footprint of university offices.

The orientation will show how to complete the green-office scorecard, evaluate an office's level of sustainability in energy and other areas and improve best practices, said Steve Mital, director.

More than 20 offices have been certified – 10 percent of all campus units – and the list is growing, the sustainability office said. Platinum certifications have gone to the Department of Biology and the Office of Strategic Communications; more than a half-dozen offices have earned gold certifications and others have earned silver and bronze recognition.
