Webinar offers discussion on Title IX and survivor advocacy

A panel of experts has been assembled to inform the University of Oregon community about Title IX policy and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault.

The Zoom webinar, “Let’s Talk Title IX: Understanding Your Rights and Resources on Campus,” will stream live on Thursday, April 22, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The panelists represent various offices on campus. They will bring their knowledge of Title IX to break down complicated policy-related information, shed light on the process of making and managing a Title IX report, and explain resources and support services for survivors.

Recognizing that not all survivors want to report, the panel will explain additional resources available to students if they choose that option.

The event is presented by the Organization Against Sexual Assault and will be moderated by student leaders Cameron Hartquist, Nathaniel Blair and Paulina Kuchepatova.

Panelists confirmed to participate include:

  • Nicole Commissiong, associate vice president, chief civil rights officer and Title IX coordinator, Office of Investigations and Civil Rights Compliance.
  • Kasia Mlynski, staff attorney, Student Survivor Legal Services.
  • Jimmy Howard, assistant dean of students for prevention and response, Office of the Dean of Students.
  • Jessica Haymaker-Parsons, director, Crisis Intervention and Sexual Violence Support Services.

The webinar is part of April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which culminates with Take Back the Night, a remote event April 26-29.
