Keller lands Mellon fellowship for bibliography studies

Vera Keller, a historian in the UO's Robert D. Clark Honors College, is among 20 researchers across the United States to receive the Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship of Scholars in Critical Bibliography.

The fellowship, created two years ago by the non-profit Rare Book School at the University of Virginia, supports early career academics  doctoral candidates, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty  in the humanities to inspire new interest in bibliographic studies in the humanities.

The scholars, over the next three years, will take special courses at the Virginia school, visit famous collections worldwide and travel to pursue their own research. In addition, the fellowship will support Keller's efforts to hold rare book events at the UO.

Keller studies the history of science and early modern Europeanism. She is the author of over a dozen articles and book chapters on the history of friendship, constitutions, wish lists, celebrity, secrets, inventions, alchemy and magic.

"What is great about the fellowship is, besides the funding, that it is designed to create a network of experts in the field of rare books and humanities who will learn and collaborate together closely for the next three years, under the tutelage of the major experts, curators and librarians in the country," Keller said.
