Tuition rates for nonresident and graduate students for the upcoming academic year will top the agenda for the Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon during its regular winter meetings.

The meetings will be held March 4-5 at the Erb Memorial Union.

Trustees will be considering the proposal forwarded by President Michael H. Schill, whose recommendation is based on the work of the Tuition and Fee Advisory Board earlier this year and feedback gathered during a forum and public comment period held this month.

The Tuition and Fee Advisory Board — a campus body made up of students, administrators, faculty members and staff — this month forwarded its recommended tuition changes to Schill. Those recommendations include a 2.97 percent increase for nonresident undergraduate students.

The rate for resident Oregon undergraduates is not included in the recommendation. The UO will set resident undergraduate tuition in May, when campus officials hope to have a better sense of enrollment projections as well as the amount of financial support the state Legislature will commit for public higher education.

Other items on the agenda for trustees include the latest update on the university’s effect on the state economy from UO economist Tim Duy. Ben Saunders, a professor in the English department, will also give a presentation on Comics and Cartoon studies at the UO, a growing program with a minor that was the first of its kind in the nation.

The Academic and Student Affairs Committee will receive an update on the data science initiative from Bill Cresko, executive director of the data science initiative and professor in the biology department.

The Finance and Facilities Committee will hear from Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer Jamie Moffitt with a quarterly report on the university’s finances. Committees will also receive an audit report, consider a proposal to approve a new doctorate in ethnic studies, and receive an update on the university’s overarching diversity, equity and inclusion issues.

The two days of meetings will be held in the EMU’s Redwood Auditorium.

Committee meetings begin 10 a.m. March 4, while the full board meeting gets underway 10 a.m. March 5. Board meeting agenda and materials, as well as a live webcast link, are available at https://trustees.uoregon.edu/meetings.
