Nominations are open for outstanding undergrad advisers

The search is on for the best advisers the University of Oregon has to offer.

The Division of Undergraduate Studies and the All-Campus Advising Association  invite nominations for the annual UO Excellence in Undergraduate Advising Awards. One faculty adviser and one professional adviser will each receive a $2,000 award and be recognized at an awards ceremony Wednesday, May 25.

Faculty, students and staff are encouraged to nominate undergraduate advisers who demonstrate the qualities and practices associated with outstanding advising. The advising association lists “educational integrity, fostering academic excellence, support of students, cultural competency and professional development” as traits that define excellence in advising.

Nominations are due Wednesday, March 9, and nominees will be notified by email. To be considered, nominees must submit an application that includes an advising/mentoring philosophy statement and at least one letter of recommendation. A committee comprised of faculty members, professional advisers and university administrators will review applications.

All professionals who have undergraduate advising as the bulk of their job responsibilities are eligible for nomination as outstanding professional advisor. Outstanding faculty advisers have professional responsibilities that include teaching and research as well as advising undergraduate students.

Questions should be sent to advisingawards@uoregon.edu. More information and the link to nominate advisers can be found at http://acaa.uoregon.edu/awards/awards-program-information/.
