President Gottfredson responds to controversy over sexual assault allegations

UO President Michael Gottfredson on Friday reaffirmed the university’s commitment to eradicating sexual violence from campus and spoke out on the ongoing controversy over allegations of sexual misconduct by three former men’s basketball players.

At a news conference at the Ford Alumni Center, Gottfredson sharply denounced the behavior described in the report from police officers who investigated the allegations. He said such conduct cannot and will not be tolerated on the University of Oregon campus and announced an independent review of the university’s and the athletic department’s programs for preventing sexual violence.

The president’s opening remarks are available here, along with a video of the press conference.
