The Ways and Means Committee of the Oregon Legislature voted late Friday to approve Senate Bill 270, which would authorize institutional governing boards for the University of Oregon, Portland State University and possibly Oregon State University.The bill, which was passed by the committee with just one "no" vote, will next go before the full Oregon Senate – most likely on Monday. If approved by the Senate, it will move on to the House of Representatives.

Five years ago, “Lasting Legacies” kicked off the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art’s 75th birthday with an exhibition of pieces from the museum’s permanent collection. The JSMA also recognized the founder, Gertrude Bass Warner, and others who helped create the museum and build its unique collections.Five years later, the “Living Legacies” exhibit is intended to celebrate the community of people and businesses who honor and inspire the museum's mission and programs. The exhibit opened June 1 and will continue until Sept. 1.

More than 350 musicians will converge on Eugene beginning Friday (June 28) for 20 days of concerts and music activities in the 44th running of the Oregon Bach Festival, through July 14. Entering the Festival, six concerts are sold out or near capacity. Total attendance of more than 30,000 is expected for the University of Oregon event and will include participants from more than 30 U.S. states and 11 foreign countries.

The AmeriCorps program Teach for America has claimed the top spot as the program employing the most UO students. The largest number of university students ever to be accepted – 38 – will venture into every region of the country this fall to give children from lower-income families an education equal to that of their wealthier peers.
