UO hosts Disability Studies forum and luncheon Oct. 22

The University of Oregon will host a Disability Studies forum and lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, in the Knight Library browsing room.

The event will feature prominent guest scholars in disability studies and presentations by faculty and graduate students from the UO. Space is limited; please RSVP and send disability accommodation requests to Elizabeth Magee.

CONSTRUCTION: Lillis Business Complex part of biggest building boom in UO history

EDITOR'S NOTE: The University of Oregon has benefited from a steady stream of new construction projects and building upgrades over the past 25 years, and in the past 10 years that stream has become a torrent. A series of AroundtheO stories during the 2013-14 academic year will look at some of the projects, beginning with the Lillis Business Complex – whose 10th anniversary is being celebrated in October.

UO Department of Human Physiology to host Oct. 25 talk on preeclampsia

The University of Oregon Department of Human Physiology will host a talk on Oct. 25 titled “Complement Activation in Severe Preeclampsia” as part of the department’s ongoing lecture series.

Richard Burwick, an assistant professor in maternal fetal medicine at Oregon Health and Science University, will give the lecture on campus in Room 132 of the Lillis Business Complex from 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.

Justice Martha Walters and John VanLandingham to receive UO Frohnmayer Award

The University of Oregon School of Law on Nov. 8 will bestow the 2013 Frohnmayer Award for Public Service to Oregon Supreme Court Justice Martha Walters and longtime Legal Aid Attorney John VanLandingham.

The reception and award presentation will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Downtown Portland.

Each year, the Frohnmayer Award for Public Service recognizes a graduate, faculty member or friend of Oregon Law whose public service brings honor to the school.

Newton appointed interim dean of UO School of Journalism and Communication

Julianne Newton has been appointed interim dean of the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication, Interim Senior Vice President and Provost Scott Coltrane announced recently.

Newton has been a professor of visual communication in the journalism school since fall 2000, and has served as the associate dean for Undergraduate Affairs since 2008. She begins her new duties Nov. 1.
