Twin events at UO feature experts on climate change

Climate change is a multi-faceted crisis, experts agree – and so is the University of Oregon’s response.

For the second year running, the university on Wednesday, April 10, will host complementary events – free and open to the public – during which professors, students and visiting experts will present different facets of this important global challenge and drive the public discourse into new areas.

Nominations due by April 15 for faculty excellence

The nomination period has been launched for 2013-14 recipients of the Fund for Faculty Excellence Awards program.

The Fund for Faculty Excellence provides one-time awards of $20,000 to tenured faculty who have distinguished themselves in research, teaching and leadership. Up to 13 awards will be made this spring by the provost based on recommendations of a panel of senior faculty from nominations forwarded by academic deans; the awards will be announced by the end of the academic year.

Intercultural program underway

Gerardo Sandoval is well aware of the changing employment trends and how they can affect students entering the workforce.

“It is important for students to gain experience working in multicultural environments,” said the assistant professor in Planning, Public Policy and Management at the University of Oregon. “Oregon is quickly becoming a more diverse state and our students need to have the skills, knowledge and practical experience to make positive changes in ethnically diverse communities.”

OUS' Burns named fellow of American Council on Education

Bridget Burns, chief of staff for the Oregon University System, has been named a fellow of the American Council on Education for the 2013-14 academic year.

The ACE Fellows Program, established in 1965, is intended to strengthen institutions and leadership in U.S. higher education by identifying and preparing promising senior faculty and administrators for positions in college and university administration.

Broadcaster Jaco to deliver Johnston Lecture at UO-Portland

Veteran broadcaster Charles Jaco – who has covered wars, natural disasters and politics for NBC, CNN, CBS and Fox – will visit the University of Oregon-Portland on April 25 to present the School of Journalism and Communication's annual Johnston Lecture.
