Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art opens “New Art Northwest Kids” exhibition

Language Arts is the theme for the sixth annual “New Art Northwest Kids” exhibition, on view until June 2 at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

More than 40 works submitted by area K-12 students will be on view in the Education Corridor Galleries.

The exhibition explores the integration of writing and visual art, inspired by the Schnitzer museum's previous shows, “Lesley Dill’s Poetic Visions: From Shimmer to Sister Gertrude Morgan,” and “Good Grief: A Selection of Original Art from Fifty Years of Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts.”

"Valley VanPool" to aid mid-valley commuters to Eugene and UO

University of Oregon faculty, staff and students who commute regularly from Corvallis or Salem may soon be able to catch a break – and a ride – from the Lane Transit District.

Point2point – an arm of LTD aimed at helping people find affordable and sustainable ways to get where they're going – is hoping to launch a pair of "Valley VanPools" to transport commuters to Eugene's city center and the UO campus. One vanpool will originate in Salem and the other in Corvallis.

UO program fast-tracks grad students into industrial research careers

The University of Oregon Graduate Internship Program is a 54-credit blend of real-world training and graduate level instruction that fast-tracks students into scientific careers.

The program is unique in that it places students who are studying basic science, such as chemistry or physics, into positions that are typically reserved for engineering students. The program was developed in 1998 in collaboration with industry partners seeking qualified young professionals with a mix of skills for the industrial research careers of tomorrow.

Faste receives Opportunity Grant for solo exhibitions

Trygve Faste, an assistant professor in the product design program of the UO's School of Architecture and Allied Arts, is the recipient of a 2013 Oregon Arts Commission (OAC) Opportunity Grant to help support travel to and shipping costs for two solo exhibitions.

The grants are intended to help artists advance their careers through opportunities for the development of artistic, business or professional skills.

Online video oral histories the subject of March 20 talk at UO library

Educators have unprecedented access to oral histories, thanks to the Internet.

English professor Jill Goodman Gould and instruction librarian Gail Gradowski, both of Santa Clara University, will examine the way video oral histories can be used and integrated in various university courses during a talk at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, in University of Oregon's Knight Library Browsing Room.
